Senator Karen Johnson is a member of the Advisory Board for the Scientology organization the Citizen's Commission on Human Rights which writes legislation and lobby's for passage.

In May of 2006, Senators Carolyn Allen, Mark Anderson, Karen Johnson and Linda Gray joined the Scientologists for a press conference on the Senate lawn to denounce Governor Napolitano's veto of the latest Scientology bill SB1477.
